NEW CATERING FACILITIES FOR ST PAUL'S CATHOLIC COLLEGE IN THE INDEPENDENT SECTOR
The futuristic design of St Paul’s Catholic College catches the eye.
Situated on the edge of Burgess Hill, Sussex, the College caters for around 800 11-18 year old pupils and is the sole provider of sixth-form education in the town.
The new school buildings opened in September 2004 and are situated in a 31 acre site.

Site Manager Mervyn Woodruff explained that the College took an innovative approach to its dining facility, designed and installed by Hallmark.
“The dining area seats just 90 so the lunch break works on a ‘rolling’ basis over two hours to accommodate the volume of pupils”, says Woodruff.
His opinion of Hallmark’s installation: “There were a few technical hitches but you always expect that in these situations. The kitchen is very good quality, fantastic!
“A kitchen is only as good as the designer. My family is involved in the restaurant trade and this kitchen is very good for health and safety.
“Hallmark also chose the right amount of kit to cater for the numbers”.
The curved design of the College building also created its own unique problems. The dishwasher, for example, is fitted flush against the exterior wall and so needed a bespoke stainless steel section to even out the curve.
“Hallmark are very approachable, understanding and sorted out any problems right away and they explained the situation to you. I would recommend them.
“As a company, Hallmark are also very caring and the training part of the process was very good. They are very good on call outs; we had a problem with a fridge, for example, but it was sorted in no time at all.
“Space is at a premium; I think Hallmark have done well to get in what they have. There are six staff working in the kitchen and they are not tripping over each other. The ventilation is also excellent and chills the place down well”.
